Paint dye!

Hi there!

I completely for got I had a Blog for a minute!

So a few days ago, I had heard through the grape vine, than acrylic yarn could be dyed! And with acrylic paint no less!!!!

Unfortunately I forgot to take step by step pictures(whats new) but here is what I did :

1.I took about a cup of warm water for each color, and added in acrylic paint til I got a color I was fond of (one cup of blue, and one cup of green) and mixed til it was all blended together.

2. I made a hank of acrylic yarn ( I just wrapped it around my elbow and hand until I got enough yarn, then tied off around the middle)

3. I found an old plastic box that I was using to hold candles and put my hank in it,

4. Pourrrr the colored water over the hank

5. (You might want a pair of gloves for this, I didn't care about my hands being dyed but you might!) I squeezed the yarn until it was all colored to my liking (I was going for variegated)

6. Pick your yarn up and squeeze extra water out

7. I'm not sure if this step is necessary, but just to make sure I didn't miss anything, I  re-poured the colors onto it, and squeezed it til it was soaked again.

8. Hang hank to dry!

I have mine hanging on the back porch, so the water doesn't drip and color my carpet inside. Its been in the mid 30's recently, so there's a chance it may freeze, but it seems to be drying alright. I imagine it could dry in less than a day in the  summer months, or if you live in a warm dry climate.

So far its been about two days and its almost dry!

Once it does finally dry, I'll make a small swatch and wash it to see how well the colors really stick to it.

Here's a bad photo of what my yarn looks like right now:

Happy dying!
